Vaughan Hammer is the Julian Edelman of hammers

On the first day of our 12 Tools of Christmas

This rip hammer from Vaughan swings like a beast

The Vaughan Tools 18-ounce Rip Hammer was my go-to on this recent decking resurface project.

Clearly strikingly similar to the hammer from the inventor and progenitor, Douglas Tool, this rip hammer from Vaughan Tools is so good that I can’t describe it. It has a glorious chisel-claw with a nearly straight—but not straight—fetch. The fetch is the curve of the claw of the hammer.

Overstrike protection is built-in.

And it’s the Julian Edelman of hammers: small, light, and swings like a beast. The price also is carpenter-friendly at less than $80. If either the head or handle breaks, you can get those parts replaced, or you can just get a new hammer.

It’s 18 ounces of wood, steel, and sex appeal. Now this a tool review that I really enjoyed.

What do you think of this hammer? What’s your go-to hammer for your remodeling and DIY projects around your house? Share in the comments below, or send us a note

See the curve on the Stiletto and how it compares to the Vaughan hammer. Super subtle but that little bit makes them almost totally different tools.
