Think about how many times you enjoy your windows, then consider my pitch for a national window day.
Yes, a national window day isn’t that weird.
There’s a national egg day, ‘say something nice’ day, black cow day, chocolate eclair day, and handshake day. And those are just national days celebrated annually each June.
I love national days.
I celebrate the Talk Like a Pirate Day every year on September 19th, and whenever I check the national day calendar—which is more often than you’d think—it makes me think about things that I might not normally think about. Like chocolate eclairs or black cows.
Recently I toured the HGTV Smart Home, and while the technology designed by tech guru Carley Knobloch is amazing (and there is tons of info available about those features to geek out about online), it’s the color, texture, and light that make the home feel like home. Yes, those elements have a lot to do with the severely amazing talent of HGTV Design Star Tiffany Brooks, but all of the lightness and airy attitude of the home nestled in a tree-lined property would not be possible without the views and the light.
Yes, windows are important to design stars, too.
Windows are essential to making a house into a home. And just like the other under-praised heroes of our homes (like our roofs and siding), those windows have to perform effortlessly and be gorgeous for us to be pleased. It’s a tough job keeping our homes protected from the weather, keep our homes comfortable, and accentuate a family’s personal design statement.
So if we are going to take a day to celebrate our sunglasses on June 27th, I think we should take a day to celebrate our windows.
