Make holiday decorations from your own backyard with paint and glue.

Holiday decorations don’t have to cost a lot to look like they did.

This is a holiday wreath made from leaves in my backyard.

Inspiration is everywhere.

The best part of taking a moment to zen-out my brain is that ideas pop inside of it. I was waiting for my carpenter-husband to finish a detail on another holiday project, our pallet Christmas tree, and I took the moment to admire the fresh-fallen leaves.

Making a wreath from backyard leaves

Gorgeous in shape, with beautifully pointed tips and curves, the leaves are like little trees with their little veins and stems. Already armed with some Krylon spray paint in rose gold, I started gathering leaves and painting.

The autumnal wind was my only adversary in the project. Painting leaves is quick-business, and the paint actually helps keep the leaves from blowing for the few minutes it takes for them to dry.

By the time Mark was finished with his carpentry step of our pallet tree, I had already finished painting and made a little base out of our tree-making scraps to Gorilla Glue the rose gold leaves.

So what are you remaking for your holiday decorations?

Here’s the how-to

Back to the reason why I had a can of Krylon’s Rose Gold spray paint handy. I wanted to transform the dark green ornament hooks into pretty little metallics.

Yes, it’s no secret that Krylon and Gorilla Glue are friends of ours, and we’re lucky for that. It takes the zen-moment plus quick-drying paint and glue that seriously sticks and transforms things as simple and inexpensive as fallen leaves into holiday decorations.
