Tips for re-creating a reclaimed wood window seat nook.

Hi . Yes, we love this one too (thank you Pinterest).

While we didn’t build it, I can say the builders likely went one of three ways:

1—It’s part of a true timberframe home where the posts and beams for the entire house are made from this reclaimed barn material, which is what it looks like.

2—It was a timberframed addition. Again, full timbers. Then, stud walls were framed, wired, and drywalled around the timbers.

3—The the reclaimed wood was  purchased as planks and applied to an existing nook to make it look timberframed. If they went the plank route, here are a few tips.

I see an important carpentry detail:  There is no edge grain in this photo (un-weathered lumber where it was recently cut for example). That means the carpenter who built this mitered any areas where boards meet or was otherwise to hide edges so it all looks like this awesome seen here.

Hats off to whoever built this. Please let me know if this helps. Heck, I wish we could come help you build yours.
