SunRise Solar Attic Fans: A Class Act

One way to know a company that believes in their product, understands how their product performs, and that they are being honest when they tout its benefits is when you call them and they suggest than ANOTHER product might be the best solution for what ails you.

SunRise Solar Attic fan.

I’ve been working on solving a moisture problem in the attic of an old house. The house has new windows, new roof, and an increased heat load. Combined (stay tuned for a little building science) those things are driving and trapping more heat in the unconditioned attic than ever before. The problem with that isn’t so much heat loss but what happens when wamr air (from the house) meets cold air (from the attic): Moisture, mold, algae and other unhappy stuff.

I know the answer is ventilation: Remove the warm air, let the attic breath. Since Theresa and I have and enjoy the seamless performance of a SunRise Solar Attic Fan in our home, that company was one of my first calls in figuring out what the best approach to this specific and uncommon problem is.

When I explained the issue, the person I spoke with took time to think through the site conditions—had the experience working on houses to understand the nature of the problem—and thought through an answer: ridge vent.

The company’s business is powered venting but he suggested passive venting—a product they don’t sell. I finally broke down and said that I was looking for the smallest reason to use a SunRise Solar attic fan (they are easy and fast to install, free to run, made in the US, and all things considered on par cost-wise with a hard-wired fan for many installs). That’s when he stuck to his guns and said the best solution is the best solution.

The good news, for many attic venting situations SunRise Solar IS the right solution. Active, free to run, invented and made here. Thanks SunRise Solar, you are on my materials list for my nest roof.
