We’re lucky to have the opportunity to hands-on test 4 snow excellent snow blowers and snow throwers that are designed to clear away different amounts of snow in different locations. Some are best for a few inches or less, and others are designed for larger pathways and driveways. Together, they are a team of snow removal equipment that we found to work effectively.
1. The Skil Power Tools Snow Shovel
Really, the Skil Power Tools Snow Shovel is just a downsized version of a typical paddle-type snow blower and built on a string trimmer mainframe, this unit can really hurl some snow. We didn’t get big dumps this winter but we did find the tool very useful for detail work like walks and around cars. The snow only ejects to the front of the tool and user, so be mindful of snow removal sequence and wind. One 40-volt, 4.0-amp-hour battery.

2. The Skil Power Tools Single-Stage Snow Blower
I didn’t think I would like this tool and wouldn’t include it in our excellent snow thrower and snow blower list. I thought it was trying to do too much on a single 40-volt 6-amp-hour battery, but using it across three small storms for detail work, it became my go-to supplement to my mainframe snow removal tool on residential work—my mighty sub-compact front-end loading tractor. The Skil snow blower has enough umph to clear powdery snow from drives and sidewalks and I know because I tested it doing this with ice and slush.
The chute is simple and way easy to adjust. I also LIKE that it is self-propelled—meaning, you propel it yourself (aka, single stage)—because the tool is light. I can push it at a reasonable rate. And withdraw it easily. I can also lift it into and out of the bed of my truck. This is huge for my residential snow operation. Super rugged paddle. Good run time.

3. eGo Power 24-inch 2-Stage Snow Blower
This eGo Power 24-inch 2-Stage Snow Blower is the linebacker/tight end of cordless snow throwers. Big and strong. Fast and smart. Always hungry. For me and the kinds of properties where I work, it hits a sweet spot between major capacity and maneuverability. Its claim of throwing snow 60 feet away is potentially an exaggeration, but not much. It rooster tailed snow way further than I’ll ever need it to go. The manufacturer claim is that it clears a 32-car driveway with 8 inches of snow (by “snow” they mean powder, not what we get in the East for the most part) on a single charge.
What I can say is that it jettisoned snow from the walks and drives on my residential route like a beast and had plenty of bars left on the TWO monster 56-volt batteries. Controls are smooth and the unit is easy to maneuver. The chute adjustment takes some getting used to. It is an eccentric motion but once you figure out the subtleties, they’re figured out. The same for the deflector. All in all, surprising performance from batteries in the cold. Is it great for detail work? Not really what it’s designed for, but it works some in a pinch. TWO monster 56-volt, 12.0 amp-hour batteries and dual charger.

4. eGo Power 28-inch 2-Stage Snow Blower
Maximum snow ejection, dialed-in details are my overall review of the eGo Power 28-inch 2-stage Snow Blower. “Two Stage” means “self-propelled.” And it needs it, because this thing is a meat eater. Sharing all the diesel features from its gasoline-powered forebears, like a 14-inch steel auger and 32-inch clearing height, the unit is built for mowing down snow. We didn’t get massive storms during the test period, but we got enough to know that if you have a large residential property with long driveway runs and the likelihood more snow is coming (meaning, you need to move large amounts of snow far away so you can move the next large amount of snow far away) this tool is hungry.
I also love the fully electronic chute and deflector system. It takes a little practice but it is dialed in and works really well. This is a macro machine, meant for opening the drive and lengths of sidewalk. Maybe, if your walkways are straight and wide, sure. But for all the well-designed details, the unit’s size means you’re blasting long and swooping spaces. Leave the in-and-out work to smaller units. TWO monster 56-volt, 12.0 amp-hour batteries and dual charger included at Lowe’s.
