Demand for power tools is on the rise.

Power tools and DIY go together like peanut butter and jelly. So why is there an explosion of peanut butter and jelly now?

Pandemic powering tools

There’s been a lot of talk about the rise in DIY projects among homeowners during the pandemic. We all spent more time at home and had time to dream about what our homes could be. And about 4 out of 5 homeowners actually picked up a few tools to make their dreams happen, according to a survey from Angi.

With the rise in DIY home improvement, there has been a rise in power tool sales. According to Fact.MR, the portable tools market was about 15 percent of the global industrial machinery and equipment tools market in 2021, and it’s expected to reach about $80.4 billion by the end of 2022.

That’s a huge increase in demand for power tools. We’re curious if that drive for tools will hold steady or continue to rise as more people settle into working from home.

DIY demand and power tools

Tools are essential to completing home improvement projects. While it may seem that since 4 out 5 homeowners attempted a project during 2021, it doesn’t mean they are all set when it comes to tools.

Among the common mistakes cited by homeowners in the Angi survey, one of the top mistakes was using the wrong tool (33 percent). And not having the right tools wasn’t something that many were motivated to fix.

One in four cite not having the right tools as a barrier to trying DIY again. Plus, not having the right tools is also the reason why some homeowners hired a pro (25 percent).

Have you purchased more power tools since the start of the pandemic? What do you think is the most popular power tool among DIYers?
