Do DIY TV hosts build anything at their own home? Talk with This Old House

Kevin O'Connor - This Old House - MyFixitUpLife - Hangout

MyFixitUpLife LIVE with Mark & Theresa with This Old House

What do DIY TV hosts build at their own homes? We ask This Old House and Ask This Old House’s Kevin O’Connor what he DIYs when he’s not on TV with Tom Silva, Norm Abram, Rich Trethewey, and Roger Cook.

‣ MyFixitUpLife Kevin O'Connor - This Old House - MyFixitUpLife - HangoutThis interview with This Old House and Ask This Old House host Kevin O’Connor about what DIY hosts build in their own homes starts out with us discussing the ALS ice bucket challenge and HGTV’s Anthony Carrino’s point about how water might be better used in places that need it.
For example, the dirt bucket challenge. Kevin quickly pointed out Mark should use dirt from his own ‘lawn’ wasting no time in referring to their Twitter war #GameOfLawns.
Kevin’s other projects range from a rustic tree house and zip line he made both for—and with—his kids. He used rough-sawn lumber and raw branches. He also shared his hack for turning his fire pit into a coffee table using ipe boards.
It was so popular that Tom Silva maxed it out for an Ask This Old House segment. And Kevin asks what we’ll give him if he can get Norm—who transcends social media—on social media. Mark offered him a copy of The Carpenter’s Notebook, a steak dinner, beer and (A) the MyFixitUpLife compost bin kit for his yard or (B) the contents of the MyFixitUpLife compost bin.
You’ll have to watch the interview and decide for yourself if its boards or a bag of dirt. And watch the 35th Season of This Old House:
Good people doing it right. That’s how you do it.
