FixitUp Find: Hitachi WH18DL Impact Driver

Cordless impact drivers have been around for a long time, just not in the United States. They were a primary drilling and driving tool in Japan before entering U.S. markets, where they took off slowly. But every pro I know who uses them loves them. And the reason why is simple — big power, small package.

I consider cordless impact drivers ideal for remodeling sites (although they’re great everywhere) where fasteners and projects change with days of the week. Another place where they’re ideal is deck building; you can use them in just about all fastening phases. Indeed, on my deck sites I’ve determined that even though these tools tend to be about double the price of a cordless drill, not having at least one costs me money.
