Using the Rockwell VersaCut at Krylon’s Colormaster Challenge.

When we suit up and boot up for big projects, it usually means going on the road, far from home. We’re all-in. No back-up.

So for a schedule that’s ‘rip-and-run-around-the-clock’, we depend heavily on our machines to bring Theresa’s designs and layouts to life.

One machine that rocked it on our Cooking Channel build Save My Bakery is Rockwell’s VersaCut. This mini circular saw is ready for action from DIY to GID (‘get it done’). It cuts wood, tile, plastic, soft metals, flooring, cementitious backer board and more. On location at Save My Bakery we used it for a precision cut in ceramic tile—in a room full of people and cameras no less. I loaded the grinder wheel onto the tool, flipped on the laser, snapped a line and we made a sweet 12 foot free-hand slice without cutting the floor underneath. Dust was minimal; power was max. I’m not sure we could have done it quite as well with any other tool. It worked like the world’s smallest road-cutting machine.

At the Krylon 24in24 Colormaster Challenge, we had to DIY 24 projects in 24-hours. I set up the VersaCut to cut 1/2-inch BC plywood for the Bean Bag Toss project. Using it with the carbide-tipped wood cutting blade and Rockwell’s aluminum straight edge guide, VersaCut delivered a clean, easy-to-make cut. Its light and super easy to handle. And because you can set depth so exactly, it barely nicked the work table underneath. Nice feature for home shops.

In general, power is ample, blade-change a snap, and I love the laser and edge guide.

For pros who need a ‘get-out-of-jamb-free-card’ for all kinds of off kilter work like precision plunge cuts in flooring or cutting backer board for bathroom tile VersaCut can deliver. If you’re DIY-ing on the weekends and a full-on circ saw isn’t what you need, Rockwell’s Versa Cut is safe, light and can keep you movin’ fast from DIY to GID.
