How to Create a Cozy Home Environment for Autumn

There’s something special about a cozy home. As the weather turns cooler, it’s the ideal time of year to start making choices around the house that creat a cozy home vibe. From autumnal scents and soft furnishings to the warmth of a fire (real or faux), it’s not hard to transform a space into the height of cozy living.

Here are a few tips to help you get started.

Surrounding Scents

It might not seem that important, but how your home smells adds so much to how it feels. Often, the smell is one of the first things you notice, especially if it’s extremely pleasant or unpleasant. Think about the smell of baking bread and cooking bacon. It makes many of us hungry just thinking about those scents, let alone smelling it. Just like other cozy vibes that exude comfort, delicious smells can help us relax and destress.

While constantly baking bread can make your home smell divine, a simpler option is to just invest in scented candles. You can also use aromatherapy infusers or wax melts to add an inviting scent to your rooms.

Soft Furnishings

Coziness evokes softness. Often, the easiest way to make a room feel more cozy is by adding more soft furnishings when the weather starts to turn cooler.

For example, if you have hard floors, a large cable-knit patterned rug can visually bring cozy into a space while warming the floor for your toes. Rugs also make the room feel smaller and increase sound absorption, which can add to a cozy feel.

Another option is to update your curtains. You can get made to measure curtains for doorways and windows alike. Thick curtains keep warmth inside a room and make a space feel more snug. When creating a cozy home, blankets, throws, and cushions are part of the recipe.

Install a Fireplace

Adding a fire pit to your backyard can bring an autumnal cozy vibe that’s relatively easy and low-cost. However, a more permanent option indoor fireplace can help reduce your dependence on the grid and become a focal point for your family throughout the year. Besides, there’s nothing like an open fire or a log burning stove when it comes to added comfort and coziness.

A fireplace or wood stove can instantly transport us back in time, where the warmth and light of a fireplace invites the whole family to sit around together. A fireplace can also be practical. If you’ve ever lost power in the winter, you might have wished for a way to keep your family warm and to provide a bit of light to the room at night. While logs and pellets are a great option to burn, you can also install a gas or propane fireplace that still provide the look and feel of a traditional fireplace, but it’s much easier to switch on quickly as you don’t have to worry about keeping a pile of logs or cleaning up ash.
