Live from the International Builders’ Show, we’re talking trends from the Spax booth. Join us.
It’s not every day we get to find out innovations in the building industry, so we’re like kids in the candy store when it comes to our annual pilgrimage to the International Builders’ Show in Vegas. And we’re not alone geeking out on tools, gear, and more. There were an estimated 160,000 other building geeks with us.
And we were lucky enough to hang out with our friends at Spax to talk with some of the most acclaimed trendsetters and trend-finders. Guests on this episode include Anthony Carrino from HGTV’s Cousins Undercover, Karman Hotchkiss from Better Homes & Gardens, President of Spax Eric Rohrschneider, Phil Moore from Spax, and fastener artist Andrew Myers.
Anthony Carrino is half of the HGTV ‘Cousins.’ With his cousin John Colaneri, Anthony has hosted several shows for HGTV from ‘Kitchen Cousins’ to ‘Cousins Undercover.’ Anthony co-founded Brunelleschi Construction with his father in 2004. They specialize in the urban development of mixed-use and adaptive re-use properties, working within a neighborhood’s existing fabric to create a vibrant community. When Anthony isn’t remodeling, he’s probably off somewhere around the world on a motorcycle.
“Helping a client realize their vision is the best part of what we do, so it’s really about their needs. We are always ready for a challenge.”
Karman Hotchkiss is the Deputy Director, Home Design Content Core at Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Media at Meredith, which means she helps put out more than 50 issues a year for theBHG brand. Karman is sharing a few of the 30 Most Innovative Products awards, which will be in an upcoming issue.
Andrew Myers is best known for his time-intensive screw pieces depicting amazing portraits. One of the artist’s favorite memories was watching a blind man experience his work for the first time. As the man ran his hands over a large three-dimensional portrait tediously constructed with tens of thousands of screws over hundreds of man hours, his blank expression suddenly transformed into a warm smile.
“Art is a lifelong pursuit and there is no guidebook to show you the way.”
