Kitchen: After renovation

Love the remodeled kitchen!

It’s like walking around inside a magazine photo shoot.

Our kitchen took about four months from demo to usable kitchen, and another few months for finishing touches.

It’s a project that you really have to over-budget the expected time. And, try to not add the pressure of an event or big family meal as the goal date. No matter how experienced you are with renovation projects, there will always be surprises.

Here’s a breakdown on our new kitchen:

We chose American Woodmark cabinets in a butterscotch glaze finish, with tons of cool organizing accessories for flatware, pots and pans, spices, and more. Mark is in love with the drawer-closing Cushion-Close that you have to experience.

We chose a black undermount sink that makes clean-up so much easier, and the Gerber faucet in oil-rubbed bronze fits perfectly in our ‘formal farmhouse’ styled home.

We used the same wide-plank Eastern white pine floor from Lumber Liquidators as in the rest of the house, and even made a barn door between the kitchen and parlor out of the same material.

The Richlite countertop is easy to clean and is a million miles long compared to our old decaying counter that was about as big as my computer screen. But, Mark and I still end up slide tackling each other through kitchen prep. I guess it really doesn’t matter how big a space is, people always seem to end up in the same square inch.

Dealing with the kitchen (and refrigerator) in the living room, and cooking with a slow-cooker and microwave for four months was worth it.

For this reason, many view kitchen renovation as more than just a way to freshen up the look of their cooking area, but as
a way to expose our social habit to a new light.
Gorgeous renovations don’t happen by accident, structures that last hundreds of years are not
a fluke, and fine workmanship takes years
and years of dedication. Whatever the reason you are thinking of remodeling, you definitely want to
make sure you do the job right the first time or you will end up
wasting thousands of dollars.
