In this interview with Cathy Olig from Generac, she shares options for backup power that will ensure your family’s comfort throughout any type of weather.
But she points out to Mark & Theresa that an even better reason for adding backup power to your home: for when you aren’t at home. With a backup generator, you don’t need to be home for the backup power to turn on immediately after the power goes out.
So, if you are at work or traveling and your power goes out, you don’t have to worry about keeping your pets comfortable, making sure your food doesn’t spoil in your refrigerator, or any other power-based systems that need to have energy all day.
While Generac recommends that you work with an electrician, they also provide their products with pre-wired easy switches that are color-coded to make it easier to wire into an existing panel. Many of the units come with a composite pad so you don’t have to pour concrete, but the municipality will determine what’s best for your home’s location. Another way to help keep the costs down for installation, homeowners can help do the site prep and landscaping.
Theresa has already added a backup generator to their MyFixitUpLife renovation plans.
