Working from home is a big cause of rising housing prices, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research. Of the 24 percent increase in housing costs from 2019 to 2020, about 15 percent is due to remote work as housing demand has shifted to locations that are suited to working from home. 

The study also found that more than 42 percent of the U.S. workforce is working from home at least part time.
