I love making art with spray paint and the bits and pieces leftover from a big project.
My imagination often goes wild with possibilities when I look over a scrap pile.
If you are a artist-dreamer at heart, like me, you might also not have the patience to ‘fix’ a little art piece if the paint isn’t perfect.
So, I’m sharing a few of our spray paint tips that help us get the best finish every time.
What you need to know before you spray paint:
1. Selecting the perfect spray paint workstation is essential. A backyard can be perfect, but you may want to set up in a place where leaves, bugs and other nature-matter won’t settle on your spray paint art.
2. Shop smart for your spray paint. There really is a difference between the formulas for spray paint made for metal or plastic or fabric. There are textured finishes, metallic finishes, glow-in-the-dark, and more. If you plan to paint many different kinds of surfaces, I’d recommend trying out Krylon ColorMaster.
3. Shake the spray paint can for at least 60 seconds. It really does help the spray paint come out much better.
Spray paint technique tips that can help achieve a perfect finish:
1. If you’ve got a patented spray-paint motion that has always work for you, keep it.
2. If you don’t have a spray paint motion mastered, try spraying in a sweeping motion, back and forth, over the surface of what you are painting.
3. If you have a DIY kid who wants to ‘help’ paint, set up a water bottle with food coloring for the little helper to use as the ‘spray paint.’
After the spray paint art is created:
1. If you have paint left in a spray paint can, turn it over and spray it out to clean the nozzle before you store it.
2. Curiosity can ruin a good finish. Avoid touching the finish to ‘check’ if it’s dry before the allotted time is up.
3. Plan the next spray paint art project.
