The Handiest Man on buying replacement windows

Spring cleaning checklist for guys

When buying replacement windows, the glass you choose really matters for comfort and for saving money.

Mark Handyman on Buying Replacement Windows Simonton Window Handy Man You can’t see it of course but there are different types of glass treatments you can choose for your windows and the right one can make your home more cozy in all seasons while helping you save money and energy. And, just maybe give your home a healthier aura.

These treatments, or coatings, on replacement windows affect the amount of heat or cold that travels through the glass. And since glass makes up most of the window’s area, this is pretty important. For example, some glass is coated with tiny invisible flecks of silver (called LoE). This coating is very affordable and reflects the sun’s heat, which makes windows more thermally efficient. You can feel this with your body’s own thermometer which will be happy with fewer and less extreme hot and cold spots around the house.

Where you live also matters in glass selection. You may actually want more heat coming through your replacement windows if you live in a cooler climate. Coatings also protect furniture, carpets and floors from fading by blocking certain wavelengths of ultraviolet light.

So whether you heat your home with gas, wood or your aura like The Handiest Man in the World, don’t look past the glass.

Thanks Julia. The Handiest Man is happy you enjoyed the video–

I never thought about climate making a difference in the window glass you choose! I live in a really chilly area, and will really consider this when replacing my windows. I plan on replacing them in a few months. Mine are so old, they’re hardly doing anything anymore.
