Lumber costs and other building product prices continue to rise, 10 trees is a sweet spot for improving health, and dower rights are explained in today’s home improvement News Fix.

Having 10 more trees in a city block improves health in ways comparable to being 7 years younger. It’s also like having $10,000 more in annual income, or living in a neighborhood with a $10,000 higher median income. 

The Nature study also found 11 or more trees in a city block can decrease cardio-metabolic conditions to be comparable to an increase of $20,000 in annual income. It’s also similar to moving to a neighborhood with a $20,000 higher median income.

Business News

The lumber costs and prices for other building products rose 19 percent since last year and 35.6 percent since the start of the pandemic, according to the National Association of Home Builders.

Dower rights still exist. Established to ensure that women who weren’t able to own property could have some claim to a late husband’s possessions, those in states that still recognize dower rights require a spouse’s signature before selling a home, even if the spouse’s name isn’t on the deed.
