This is a question I get asked from time-to-time: What’s the best cordless drill to get for DIY and home improvement projects?
My answer usually isn’t a brand recommendation—there are lots of really top notch tools out there. Instead, what I usually recommend is to buy a certain type of tool, namely: A cordless drill/hammerdrill.
This is basically the do-all of the drilling and fastening world. Drive deck screws or drywall screws, drill small holes in concrete, rock, block and bigger holes in wood, steel and other metals.
It’s a versatile, powerful tool. Also, when buying a cordless drill like this, think about other tools you might want to get or need in the future. While cordless tools are incredibly inexpensive for the features and technology they tend to have, you’re still buying into what tool companies call a ‘platform’. They design lots of tools that can run on the same battery.
The tool shown here is a Ryobi 18-volt ONE + Hammer Drill Kit, which means it comes with a battery, charger and carry bag from The Home Depot.
