Pressure Treated Southern Pine Retaining Wall

The Challenge

When we moved into our home the front yard was part play-area, part precipice.

Near the house it was nice and level (and easy to mow). But as you got closer to the street, the grass abruptly pitched off towards the sidewalk at about a 60-degree angle. From the yard it kind of looked like one of those endless pools where water cascades off the edge. However, if you—or the kids—cascaded off this edge you cascaded onto concrete. Fun.

What’s more, this steep pitch made mowing a weekly adventure in a new sport I dubbed “sideways mowing.” Long story short, this sizable portion of the yard was a wasted space from top to bottom.
