We like under-cabinet lights and specced them for our latest kitchen reno. Problem is, typical under-cabinet lights are placed beneath the shallow cabinet carcass (usually just 1-inch deep) and against usually towards the wall.
This is nice for ambient lighting, say in those quiet moments at night before you run the dishwasher and turn in. But it’s not so great for task lighting because your hands cast a shadow over the work you’re doing. Furthermore, you can sometimes see the fluorescent fixtures from a seated positions, say the kitchen table.
