How to Build a Shed Kit from Amazon (a LifeTime Shed)

We got a call to assemble an Amazon LifeTime shed. We love building and assembling playsets and other stuff, so why not build a shed kit? As I looked into it, I immediately had a lot of questions.

It seems DIY-able, but with 99 pages of directions, is it? It’s all plastic and there’s a lot of Tab A / Slot B connections. Do they all work? The unit is also $2,500-ish and it’s not that big. Is it really worth it? And what other challenges are there? So, in this video we ask, answer, or show the following answers to popular questions about how to build a shed kit.

Is a Lifetime Shed bought from Amazon worth it?

Depends. For somebody like me, I could build a larger shed for the same money that it would cost to buy and build this shed kit, and it’d be baller. Like this custom shed

Can you really DIY an Amazon LifeTime shed?

Yes, you can DIY-build a shed kit. But, there are some mental gymnastics required. They’re not the end of the world, but I build stuff all the time and I got stymied more than once. AND, I had to modify parts to make it work.

Did it work? Yes. Do I love modifying parts? No. Are replacement parts readily available from LifeTime? Yes. This shed package was missing the front window panes. LifeTime had them to me in a few days.

How long does building a LifeTime shed take?

Depends on the shed, your acumen for reading instructions and organizing parts, your willingness to suspend the 6-pack until after the mental hijinks take hold are factors. But, we would definitely carve out a full weekend to build a shed kit.

Do you need special tools for an Amazon LifeTime Shed?

No. In fact, if you have a whammer slammer impact and a less-often-used cordless drill/driver, I’d opt for low and slow on an Amazon LifeTime shed build. I prefer my Skil “installer’s tool” for projects like this.

Is an Amazon LifeTime shed worth it in the end?

Honestly, the LifeTime shed kit from Amazon a good solution. It’s not perfect, but it solves a lot of outdoor storage problems. You can assemble it yourself or have a professional like me do it for you. You may need to add a base. Some people might be inclined to pour concrete, but I’d add a wood base and make life easier.
