FixitUpFinds: Put some Juju on your walls?

As our friend Christopher Lowell likes to say, design is personal.

It’s about what speaks to you, not about the season’s current trends. Those trendy styles come and go, and your living room is there to stay. But, I think we can get inspired by the trends we find in the magazines and blogs.

And I agree with Christopher that design is personal. So, it’s important to listen to your ‘inner designer’ and let that little voice tell you what works for you. Not many of us ever have our living rooms show up in a magazine anyway.

And our friend Jeanine Hays at AphroChic reminded me of this very important design truth when she blogged about her love of the gorgeous Cameroon Juju hats.

“Originally worn by tribal chiefs and dignitaries in the Cameroonian kingdoms, Juju hats feature feathers beautifully woven onto a raffia base. In an array of colors that range from deep purple, to magenta, red, creamy white and even jet black, Juju hats have the ability to add both color and texture to a space.”

While a Juju hat might not your (or my husband’s) style, it’s a perfect reminder to decorate your home with what you love. Whether it’s musical instruments or baby pictures of your kids or candy wreaths or original window weights from your home, never shy away from expressing your personal style.
