Maybe it’s because one of the most formative periods of my home improvement life was building swim-floats and docks in Cape Cod’s salt water bays and rivers using pressure treated Southern Pine 2×6 that I like the stuff as a decking material. After all, we dumped it in the ocean year after year and it survived the test of summers, literally, at sea.
Or, getting perhaps a little esoteric, maybe it’s because the carpenter in me feels the life force in a natural material like wood. As a hyper-high end wood worker once told me: “Wood [unlike other products] is alive.” We can feel that. And as a deck builder once shared: “There’s a reason they stamp a wood grain pattern on composite decking.” We can feel that too.
